Location: Des Peres

Designer: Jennifer Chapman

This 1960's two story had a classic floor layout divided into kitchen, dining room, formal living, and family room. The clients really wanted to take advantage of the available space to open things up with the purpose of expanding their kitchen, creating more connection between the kitchen and living space, and creating access from the kitchen to the backyard.

We combined the kitchen & dining to create a larger kitchen footprint which allowed for a massive island with seating and a big walk-in pantry. We also moved the powder room that divided the kitchen and family room to the mudroom/laundry area. This allows for more connection between spaces and additional cabinet space that serves as a bar and serving spot for entertaining. We eliminated a bay window in the kitchen and created a nice wide opening for sliding glass doors to the backyard.

The clients wanted a more modern and light feel to their home. They liked the mix of warm and cool tones so we paired the bright blue and white cabinets, white and gray quartz tops, and handmade blue subway tile with the warmth of the bold brass pendant lights and cabinet hardware. The light white oak flooring keeps the whole first floor feel light and connected. We had a little more fun in the laundry and powder by bringing in the bold blue cabinets with a geometric patterned hexagon tile on the floor.

The clients now have a much more connected first floor that works great for their day to day living as a family as well as when entertaining family and friends.
